Vacancy announcement for an intern in sales management/marketing

As part of CTA’s efforts to improve its efficiency, the Centre’s Strategic Plan 2007 – 2010 (SP) aims to increase outreach through a fairer and more commercial approach (market analysis of demand and existing supply, distribution/targeting methods, pricing policy). CTA wants to move from a purely non-profit (and academic) to a more commercially dynamic approach. Since 2007, CTA has been actively working on integrating marketing as a strategic tool to determine both the development and implementation of its various activities, aiming at improving access to information on agriculture in order to improve rural livelihoods in ACP countries.

For the purpose of this internship, CTA is looking for bilingual candidates fluent in English and French (Portuguese would be an asset) with excellent communication skills, who have an inquiring mind, are committed, well organised, flexible and have excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet and databases).

Tasks

1. In collaboration with the Junior Expert in Marketing, complete the database of CTA activities in ACP countries.

2. In collaboration with the Publications Distribution Service (PDS), organise the follow-up of book orders (checking claims, liaising with subscribers and integrating information into the PDS database).

3. On the basis of the information and criteria provided by CTA, prepare a list of potential beneficiaries for CTA products and services in each ACP country.

Looking for an intern to set up and manage a web-monitoring system at CTA

To strengthen its comparative advantage, strike the right balance between its products/services and the needs of its beneficiaries, and improve the quality of its activities, CTA has set up a web-monitoring system to systematically track the latest developments in the Centre’s field of operations.

Tasks/responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the program coordinator, the intern will work on:
- strengthening the monitoring process by re-evaluating integrated sources in the monitoring software and categorizing them
- collecting feedback from program coordinators (end-users of the information) and managing the selective dissemination of this information
- setting up a portal for the findings, with the support of the KB Crawl software editor
- integrating the portal to the CTA intranet
- managing the portal including evaluating and uploading information
- making proposals for the development of the service on internet
- ensuring the pertinence of the proposed mode of dissemination
- promoting « the monitoring system» and information analysis within CTA
- expanding the monitoring to cover other CTA themes within its mandate and according to the CTA information need assessments.

Key requirements:
- Experience in information management and monitoring and evaluation
- Degree or relevant training in information and documentation sciences, or similar field
- Fluency in written and spoken English or French (and working knowledge of the other language) is essential
- Motivation, autonomy, and initiative
- Good interpersonal skills and interest in working in a multicultural environment.

Duration of the assignment:
Six (6) months, commencing as soon as possible, with a possibility for renewal once for another six months.

Looking for an intern for our training programme

Tasks:
• Liaise with course participants on post course follow up activities
• Assist in the design and implementation of follow up activities
• Assist in the screening and short listing of training proposals submitted to CTA
• Assist in the review of course evaluation reports and bring out key action points for adoption in subsequent courses

Education:
Tertiary Institution and studying aspects of agriculture, (preferably in agricultural education / extension), economics or other subject related specialists

Specific requirements:
• Computer literate in main MS Office software
• Proficient in English or French and able to work in the other language

Intern needed to manage metadata for web-based photo library

The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) was established in 1983 under the Lomé Convention between the ACP (African, Caribbean and Pacific) Group of States and the European Union Member States. Since 2000, it has operated within the framework of the ACP-EU Cotonou Agreement.

CTA over the years has accumulated a number of photos – in print, slide and electronic formats, which it has digitised. Currently there are approximately 1500 images in the CTA image database. It is now necessary to clean up the classification/tagging of the photos according to the thematic descriptions developed by CTA.

The successful candidate would have:

- Good communication skills

- Good organizational skills

- Fluent written and spoken English or French and the ability to work in the other language

- Internet skills

- Proficient in word processing, Excel software

- Proficiency in Adobe photo processes would be an asset

- Extensive knowledge of agricultural and rural development issues.


Tasks

* The candidate would be expected to check and correct, where necessary, the metadata contained in the CTA image database. This would be based on his/her knowledge of agricultural issues and through verification with the hard copies of the photos/slides.
* For the photos which currently do not have any metadata, the candidate would be expected to enter the necessary data based on his/her knowledge of agricultural issues and through verification with the hard copies of the photos/slides.

CTA is looking for an intern in EDM and on-line posting of the information products from CTA’s local and national partners

The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Co-operation (CTA)provides support to many local and national organizations in the States in the ACP (African, Caribbean and Pacific) group. This collaboration gives these organizations the chance to design, produce and disseminate many information media in different formats: printed word, bulletins, magazines, booklets, technical sheets, etc, as well as audio and video (audio cassettes, DVD, CD-ROM, etc). To optimize these media better, CTA plans to get them gradually put on line.

The task of the intern will be:

- to log all the products available;
- to think about the management of the various media (evaluation of the characteristics of the documents – weight, code, etc – for them to be digitized and put on line) and the drafting of recommendations;
- to digitize the printed documents;
- document processing: cataloguing and indexing;
- to put the printed documents on line;
- to identify supplementary avenues.

Qualification/Training:

Student or young graduate in documentation and information.

Other skills:

- Ability to read, write and speak English or French fluently, and working knowledge of the other language;
- Ability to work in a multicultural team.

Start of internship: as soon as possible
Duration of internship: 6 months
Location: CTA headquarters (Wageningen, the Netherlands)
